EASTS Launches the 'Innovating East Asian STS with Images" Project

Inspired by the theme of the 2019 4S annual meeting---Innovations, Interruptions, Regenerations---EASTS joined its featured exhibition, titled "Innovating STS," and launched a visual project on its covers, a feature of EASTS that is making East Asian STS both visible and unforgettable. As our readers know, EASTS has had distinctive covers designed for each issue since our inception, and to date we have produced some fifty covers in total. Many of these were based on photos or artwork that represented the spirit of each issue, as well as continuing stories of their own. However, they are not only a visual means to attract people who have little idea about STS or East Asia, but also a meaningful component in a field where text alone can sometimes fall short of expressing the subtlety of a concept. The "Innovating East Asian STS with Images" project is an extension of these covers and aims to invite people to share their reflections or ideas. Since one of our guiding questions is to ask, ' "How far can East Asian STS go?," we hope to see how wide a readership EASTS can reach with these images.
