Editor’s Note

Volume 19, Issue 2

For this issue, we are pleased to present the thematic collection “Innovation and Circulation of Acupuncture (XIX - XXI Centuries): Between Governance and Personal Itinerary,” which focuses on the practice of acupuncture and its global development. EASTS has long been committed to exploring topics related to the globalization of Traditional Chinese Medicine, with earlier issues featuring discussions on acupuncture. By narrowing the scope to this specific practice, the current issue offers an in-depth examination of how acupuncture has evolved, circulated, and adapted across different historical and cultural contexts. The articles trace the transformation of acupuncture through a range of geographical and disciplinary perspectives—from Korea and Taiwan to France, the United States, and the United Kingdom—and draw from fields such as the history of science, medical anthropology, and applied medical sciences. We encourage readers to begin with the introduction by guest editors Lucia Candelise and Pascale Schmied, which provides an overview of the issue and contextualizes the contributions of each article.
