1 The Status of Support for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) Patients in Japan

The work of the Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis patients’ association, which I have been involved in managing since 2000, is becoming increasingly demanding. From 1995 to 2007, I cared for my mother, who had ALS, at home. Currently, I oversee a project that trains and provides carers for ALS patients. In 2004, I began researching the social aspects of ALS with Professor Shin’ya Tateiwa, and I gained invaluable insights through my long association with him. Sadly, he passed away on 31 July 2023, after a brief but intense battle with illness. Although we are deeply saddened, we remain committed to carrying his ideas forward.
